If only all of their interactions were as nice as this one appears to be. This morning Ollie came in and hopped into bed with Tori and I. She slept with us for a little while last night. Ollie and Tori played together by rolling around in the sheets. Eventually, they found a comfortable spot and laid there. Not a bad way to wake up.

Chores

We figured Ollie was old enough to start doing chores around the house. He occasionally listens to us and picks up his toys. He also has been assigned a new chore...mowing the lawn.

"Dad, I'm having problems with the starter!"

"Now What?"

All the while his parents get to sit back and watch the new labor do the work. In no time Tori will be joining him in the yard by pulling weeds and catching moles for her dinner!

Indecision 2006

"I want a snack!", Ollie says emphatically.

What results is one of two things. He either eats it all or takes 1 bite and dumps it. Lately the dumping part has gone to the extreme. He'll take a bite of 3 different snacks, dump them and try to get more. This is wasteful, so we put the brakes on his snacking and he gets an ultimatum. Eat it all or you get nothing.

This seems to put the snack and dump routine to rest for the current cycle. Next time he wants another snack we may or may not have to start all over again. I guess this is the next phase after the terrible two's.

Worn Out

Ollie wore himself out this weekend by playing outside for awhile while I was working on stuff to for the bathroom renovation. Every time I started a power tool he hid behind Annie's car so I wouldn't scare him. I had to warn him each time I was going to start a tool so he could hide. Later that day he came to his Mama and told her he was tired. So she took him up to bed and he went to sleep. This is unusual for him since he fights taking naps and going to bed. He also didn't put up much of a fight going to bed last night either.

One of the funnier moments of the weekend came after his Mama got came into the living room after her shower without her pajama bottoms on. Ollie shockingly questions "Mama, why you have no pants on! Dad and I have our jammies on!". It was funny and we both got a kick out of it. Some of the things that he comes up with are just too funny.

New Friend

Ollie's new friend is Chicken Little. He received the book version of the movie a couple of weeks ago and had us read it to him several times. This past week, we bought the movie at the store. After we first picked it up, he wanted nothing to do with the movie. He didn't even want us to hold it. He eventually decided he wanted it and hasn't let it go since Tuesday.

He watched 30 minutes of it Wednesday night, 2 more times last night and I'm sure it'll be the main attraction of his TV watching habits tonight.

This weekend doesn't look very promising for getting outside. I'm sure Ollie will be a big help with the bathroom renovations. He'll have his hammer, screwdriver and pliers ready to go. Maybe he'll get to play outside next weekend. I'm sure the umbrella will wait for him.

Pull-ups and Bribery

Ollie doesn't want to be potty trained any time soon. This weekend we made a step towards it, but it didn't start off well. We made him wear a pull up with Toy Story characters on them. He started off by kicking and screaming that he wanted his diaper. He fought it tooth and nail until he got them on and his clothes covered them. Then he didn't realize he had a pull up on anymore.

The next diaper change he insisted on a Buzz pull up. He never looked back to diapers after that. In fact, last night as I was preparing to change him before bed, he grabbed the pull-up and put it on over his pajamas. I guess he wanted to wear it quite a bit. Of course, the change to pull-ups didn't encourage him any more into using the potty, but we are hoping it eventually helps.

We also tried to reward Ollie for using his potty. We got a toy for him to receive when he uses the potty. I got him a cheap magnetic fishing pole and showed it to him when I got home Saturday. He was excited and was ready to play with it. He wasn't so excited about it after I tacked it up behind his potty chair and we told him that he could have it when he used his potty. Now it seems he doesn't want it. That's how bad he doesn't want to use the potty. I don't know if we are ever going to get him to use the potty, but I hope it is soon, or he is going to have to start wearing adult diapers soon.

Wearing O' the Green

Ollie is wearing green today. He doesn't understand why, but he is still wearing green. He also doesn't understand that he can pinch the babysitter and one of the other kids because they aren't wearing green today. That lesson will come later I'm sure.

Big Brother

Since Tori has started crawling, Ollie has become more interested in his sister. He gets down to crawl with her. When we call Tori to encourage her to crawl, he says "I'm coming too!" and crawls with her if she moves.

This morning he told Tori that "Mama is getting you a bottle Tori", to try and calm her down while she was crying in her car seat. He hands her toys and takes others, but is generally nice to her. He's a sweet kid who loves to kiss and hug his parents. One of the cats like him so much that she sleeps with him. He's very smart and very well mannered. I don't know what life would be like if we hadn't had him. I'm glad I don't know.

Free Time

While Tori was getting her check-up, Ollie and his Mama went to K's for almost 2 hours. They looked at the toys...a lot!

He was well behaved during the time they spent there. He kept going back to the same toy over and over. Guess we'll have to think about getting the drills with faces for Easter. He still has 1 present to get.

I'm sure dying eggs this year will be as exciting as it was last year. Ollie enjoyed throwing the eggs into the dye. I'm hoping this year, he'll get the concept of looking for the eggs. If he finds them, I hope he doesn't smash them to bits.

Outside!

Ollie played and played and played outside this weekend. I'm surprised we were able to tear him away from his movies, but he spent the majority of the day outside.

Saturday, he spent outside riding in his car(s), chasing the cats and running up and down the hill.

Sunday Ollie helped his Mama clean out the back area of our yard. He also played in his sand box. To help, he drug a large stick back into the yard that we had thrown into the back area. He thought it needed to be back in the yard I guess. He was so active both days, he was nasty by the time he came in.

Life of the Pardee

This morning we were going to go to Hardee's before work. Ollie usually gets an egg and bacon biscuit and devours it. While making my lunch, he noticed I had pizza in my lunch box. He wanted pizza like me for breakfast. So there went our trip to Hardee's (or Pardee's as he calls it). He ate the black olives off the leftover pizza and then wanted cereal like me.

Once in the care he decided he wanted to go to Pardee's and cried about all the way to his mama's work. Then he cried a little more on the way to the sitter's. He had stopped crying about going to Pardee's about half way there. Once we pulled in the driveway, he started crying all over again. I had to explain what Pardee's was to the sitter and why we didn't go. He kept asking for it while I was there and kept clinging onto me so he could go to Pardee's. Eventually he let go of me and all was well, at least it was when I left.

Tomorrow I'm hoping that if we go to Pardee's he won't throw a fit because he things Maid-rite (where he gets chicken and fries and a cardboard car) is Pardee's. He confused the two when he told his mom about them the other night. It is hard to tell what a child really wants when they are confused as well.

New Bed

A change has come to Ollie's room. This weekend he got a new mattress! Once we got it home, the problem became how to switch them without him noticing? He notices every change in his room. When his blinds were changed, they caused a major fit for several days. He wanted his white blinds back!

After washing his sheets, his mom stealthily moved his mattress to our closet. When I returned home with the new mattress, Ollie helped me un wrap it. He didn't realize where it was going. While he was distracted with his mom downstairs, I took the mattress upstairs and made the bed. Immediately I noticed a problem. The bed was now higher than it was before! Surely Ollie would notice this and throw another fit about wanting his old mattress back. Two nights into it and he hasn't noticed yet.

We have noticed that he seems to be sleeping better on the new mattress. He isn't as restless. His last mattress was crap and wasn't originally intended for him, but since we had it, he got it. His new Serta mattress seems to be more to his liking at least sleep wise. I just hope he doesn't hurt himself if he falls out.

Movies and More

While his sister was sleeping through the night, her big brother was awake at 3 am! We aren't sure why he woke up, but this made 2 nights in a row. He didn't seem in pain, so we aren't sure what was going on. He went back to bed with little trouble (I only had to tell him once to stop crying). But this still caused him to be crabby and clingy in the morning. I'm sure he'll ready to go tonight after his nap. I just hope this isn't the beginning of another ear infection.

After almost a week of Thomas the Tank Engine, Ollie finally switched to another movie last night The Incredibles! When I got home from class, he had to tell me all about it. How Mr. Incredible wasn't wearing blue and was now wearing red. How Mr. Incredible was going to get the blue guy and all about Dash. Apparently, he updated his Mom throughout the evening with statements like "Mr. Incredible is back!". He loves movies so much, when "Accidentally In Love" by Counting Crows came on the radio the other day, he started talking about Shrek's husband (doesn't understand the stories yet) because the song was in the movie! I'm sure he'll have his own home theatre for his growing addiction to movies when he is grown.
